Was this announcement expected with the new Socialist government? Would you say it will meet some real opposition within the French society?

This is not unexpected – the Socialists and Greens have long been more gay-friendly than the UMP. It will meet opposition from some quarters, but not in the way that you would see in the US. The previous left-wing government (1997-2002) introduced civil partnerships in 1999 (known as PACS) and they have long since ceased to be controversial.

Any group, community or nation that legalizes same sex marriage is cutting its own spiritual throat. There is no “gay” gene. Homosexuality is a result of traumatic conditioning in early childhood and poor later life choices. People should remember that ancient Gomorrah, Athens and Rome were full of urbane, cultured and intellectual people. France must not go down this path.
First and foremost I am not against the ‘gay’ or ‘lesbian’ community nor angry with them its just that I don’t believe that there is actually ‘gay’ or ‘lesbian’. But I do hope for what is best for them. Recently I saw a sample lesbian wedding invitation and I find it cute though.
