Papacy and Italy’s political system – A lost opportunity?

Would you say that the Pope’s resignation will influence somehow the election campaign in Italy and if it will how?

I’m not sure the Pope’s resignation will have much effect on the election result in Italy. It may take some attention away obviously. The Pope will probably have more success in recommending his successor than Berlusconi did his. There could be a comparison however. Both the political system and the Papacy need some reform and change of direction. The likelihood in both cases however is that even different personnel will not bring any major changes. There is an opportunity for both, but I fear there will be little real progress and more likely, in both cases, it will be ‘opportunity lost’.
